Norway head coach Stale Solbakken has praised Erling Haaland‍‍`s leadership and goal-scoring instincts ahead of his side‍‍`s FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match against Ivory Coast, describing the Manchester City striker as one of the world‍‍`s best players.

Speaking before Tuesday‍‍`s knockout fixture, Solbakken said Norway had already achieved their initial objective by reaching the last 32 in their first World Cup appearance since 1998, but insisted the team is eager to continue its run.

"We are very satisfied with what we have done so far. Reaching the last 32 was our first goal, and now we want to go even further," the Norway coach said.

Solbakken reserved special praise for Haaland, who scored four goals during the group stage, calling the 25-year-old a "powerhouse" and a leader who inspires teammates through his performances.

He said Haaland‍‍`s instinct for finding goals, combined with his pace, strength and professionalism, makes him one of the finest forwards in world football.

The Norway boss also highlighted the evolution of Norwegian football over the past two decades, saying the national team has shifted from a physically driven style to a more possession-based approach.

According to Solbakken, the influence of modern coaching methods, including the possession philosophy associated with Pep Guardiola, has helped shape the current generation of Norwegian players.

Looking ahead to the knockout match, Solbakken warned that Ivory Coast would provide a stern physical challenge.

He described the African side as powerful and athletic, saying Norway must first match their opponents‍‍` intensity before imposing their own style of play.

The coach expects a closely contested encounter and believes small moments could determine which team progresses to the next round.
